The four tiers, mapped to business stages
| Tier | From (2026) | Best for | You’ve outgrown it when… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared | ~$5 / month | New and established SME sites, brochures, blogs | Traffic spikes slow you down; you need custom software |
| VPS | Tens of $ / month | Growing sites, agencies, custom apps | You need instant scaling or high availability |
| Cloud | Tens of $ / month, scales | Spiky traffic, fast-growing businesses, SaaS | Costs stabilise → a fixed tier gets cheaper |
| Dedicated | ~$150+ / month | Heavy ecommerce, big databases, compliance isolation | Rarely — this is the top of the ladder |
The honest secret of the industry: most UAE business sites belong on good shared hosting. The upgrade path exists for when the business — not the ego — demands it.
What actually matters at every tier
- NVMe storage. The quiet performance king. Database-driven sites (WordPress, WooCommerce) feel dramatically snappier on NVMe than on legacy disks — often more than an extra CPU core would achieve.
- A real uptime SLA. “99.9% uptime” should be a commitment with teeth (ours is — see the SLA), not a marketing adjective.
- Included essentials. SSL certificates, daily backups, spam/virus-filtered email, and a control panel — if these cost extra, the cheap plan isn’t cheap.
- Support that answers. At 2 a.m. before a launch, response time beats every spec on the page. Test it: send a pre-sales question and time the reply.
- Local relevance. Serving the Gulf means latency to the Gulf matters, plus support hours that overlap yours.
Tier by tier, honestly
Shared — you rent a slice of a professionally managed server. Everything is handled: security patching, mail, backups. Limits exist precisely so no neighbour can hog the machine. From ~$5/month; compare shared plans.
VPS — your own guaranteed CPU, RAM and storage, invisible to neighbours, with root access if you want it. The step up when you run custom stacks or consistently busy sites. VPS & cloud options.
Cloud — VPS economics with elasticity: scale resources when the campaign lands, shrink when it passes, and survive hardware failures gracefully. Ideal for spiky UAE retail seasons (Ramadan, DSF, back-to-school).
Dedicated — an entire physical machine. Maximum performance and isolation, at the cost of paying for headroom you may not use. For the sites where downtime is measured in lost dirhams per minute. Dedicated servers.
The renewal-price trap
The industry’s least charming habit: a $1.99 teaser that renews at 4–5×. When comparing hosts, put renewal prices side by side, check what’s bundled (SSL? backups? email?), and read the resource limits. A transparent $5 beats a surprise $12 wearing a $2 mask.
